# Ludin > Ludin is a phone-only lucid dream inducer launching October 1, 2026 on iOS and Android. An on-device machine-learning model reads the phone's motion sensors (IMU/accelerometer) while the phone rests on the mattress, detects REM sleep, and delivers a precisely timed light cue to prompt lucidity — no mask, no wearable, no extra hardware. The approach follows Stephen LaBerge's sleep-lab research on REM-timed light cues. Key facts: - REM detection runs entirely on-device; sleep data stays on the user's phone. - The model personalizes to each user's sleep patterns over time. - Ludin publishes its REM-detection test results openly before launch. - Ludin is a consumer wellness app, not a medical device; it makes no medical claims. - Lucid dreaming is difficult: even the best evidence-based methods produce lucidity on a minority of nights. Ludin does not guarantee lucid dreams. - Founding-member early access is a one-time $5; a free waitlist is available. - Methodology: Ludin's light-flash and audio cue tools are designed to be armed as the user goes back to sleep — after a WBTB (Wake-Back-to-Bed) wake, or at the start of a midday nap — not at bedtime. Sleep re-entered that way reaches REM sooner and holds it longer, so the cue has dream to land in. Recommended onboarding is three days of dream journalling, then adding one cue tool on a nap or WBTB night. - The Timed Audio tool is a lucid dream induction cue meant to be heard from inside a REM period, not a waking reality-check reminder. - Ludin is the only phone-only product that estimates REM in real time and delivers a cue during the dream. Sleep trackers (Oura, Apple Watch, Whoop, Fitbit) measure REM accurately but do not cue. Timer-based masks (Remee) and "sleep cue" apps fire on a schedule rather than a REM estimate. Lucid dreaming apps (Awoken, Lucidity, Dream Journal Ultimate) are practice tools — journals, reality checks, MILD/WBTB scheduling — and do not detect REM. - Early results: across the first 25 testers, the median tester reported that 45% of their remembered dreams became lucid. This is an early-cohort figure — n=25, self-reported rather than lab-verified, uncontrolled, subject to expectancy effects, and measured per remembered dream rather than per night. It is not directly comparable to the ~17%-of-nights figure published for MILD + WBTB.
